You can also feel the different areas of the 4D providing different levels of cushioning, as opposed to boost which can only really be adjusted by the thickness of midsole. I now find them comfier than my UltraBoost - it's not as "squishy" but I find that I can wear it for longer periods of time without my feet starting to hurt. A couple of days of wear though and they really start to break in and shine. I think first impressions for a lot of people are going to be "oh, is that it?" when they put the shoe on - the midsole is somewhat stiff to start with. Looks really cool when light catches it but up close it does look a little cheap and rushed. The only aspect of the shoe I'm not overly struck on is the painted 3M three stripes on either side. The lacing is much more functional than I was expecting - I assumed the lack of cage would mean they're more for looks than anything else but you can get some really good lockdown with them (actually too much lockdown straight out of the box, had to loosen them off a bit to get my foot in). There is definitely something solid under the PK where a heel cup would be on an Ultraboost though, feels quite similar to what they have on the Parley Ultraboosts. There's a lot of reinforcement towards the back of the shoe, something I wasn't expecting because of the lack of visible heel cup. The PK upper is definitely more reminiscent of the 1.0/2.0 Ultraboost (in terms of feel as well as look) than 3.0/4.0. Adidas have played it fairly safe with the 4D design, keeping roughly the silhouette and making adjustments where necessary. I’ve been wearing UBs for over a year now.
